Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)is an all inclusive piece of legislation that safeguards the integrity and sensitivity of personal information. The act states that a data subject has the right to have his, her or its personal information process in accordance with the conditions of the lawful processing of personal information, which includes the right to:

Establish whether a responsible party holds personal information of data subject and to request access to his , her or its personal information

Request , where necessary, the correction, destruction or deletion of his, her, its personal information

Object, on reasonable grounds relating to his, her or its particular situation to processing of his, her, or its personal information.

Object to the processing of personal information for purposes of direct marketing.
